Intent

At Darell, we believe that all children should have the opportunity to learn a modern foreign language (MFL). The study of MFL teaches children not only the language skills required but also what it is like to be a respectful citizen who belongs in a multicultural world.

Implementation

During their French lessons, our Key Stage 2 (years 3-6) children have the opportunity to learn the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing French in a fun and engaging way. Our French curriculum is progressive and carefully sequenced and so the children can successfully build upon previously learnt vocabulary.

Impact

French teaching at Darell prepares children for further language learning at secondary school. Our wish is that our children leave Darell with a love of languages and with the interest and curiosity to find out more about languages and the different cultures and countries where they are spoken.
