At Darell Primary and Nursery School, we offer a high quality science education that provides the foundation for understanding the world through biology, chemistry and physics. We recognise that science is an integral part of our lives and the changing world around us and therefore we believe it is important that all children acquire essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science.
We follow the National Curriculum for science, which was revised in September 2014.
Our aim is to ensure that all pupils
• develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
• develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
• are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
Children are taught to use practical scientific methods, processes and skills through the teaching of the programmes of study in each year group (see below).
