Headteacher Message

Dear all,

What a fantastic half term!  Your children have been brilliant.  I have a constant stream of children at my door showing me how they have excelled in their learning. Talking about learning, this week I have had the pleasure of leading on the performance management of all teachers across the school. I decided that I wanted to do this myself rather than distributing it to other leaders because I wanted to celebrate their commitment and excellence over the past year.  I also wanted to work individually with each teacher on how we further develop them in order to continue driving school improvement. We have a diverse workforce and I met with a teacher who was only three years into her career and also with those who have been teaching for over 20 years.  At both ends of the spectrum, there was a commitment to keep developing which, as a leader, is both inspiring and motivating.

Last week I mentioned sending out a form to gather your views on parent workshops.  Here is the link to that form.  It is very short, so please take a few seconds to fill it out.

https://forms.gle/8RUHpXnvi6qXY73U8

I also want to draw your attention to our upcoming parents evenings.  They are taking place on the 9th and 11th of November.  Please make every effort to book a slot on Arbor.  You have the option of having a phone call instead of face to face meetings, so please make sure you are able to attend.  These meetings are vital in continuing to develop the home/school partnership and are also an opportunity to get to know your class teacher and celebrate the successes of your children.  In the meantime, please do contact us if you have any queries at all.

It is with deep sadness that I have to announce that Sumru Satici Ince is stepping down as PSA (Parents School association) lead.  This will be effective from the end of November.  She has run the PSA in the most challenging of circumstances.  Trying to run events and raise money throughout the Coronavirus crisis.  It is testament to her organisational, motivational and practical skills that she and her team have been able to raise thousands of pounds for the school.  In a time of challenging school budgets, this money is invaluable and every one of your children will benefit from the books this money has bought and will be buying.  I am also sad because she is a really lovely individual who has an unswerving commitment to this school.  She has promised that she will support the future PSA lead as much as possible. This is where you come in.  We need somebody to commit to leading the PSA from December this year.  You will be supported and you will be great.  Please email the school if you are interested and I can give you a call outlining what the job involves.  Alternatively approach me at the gates for an informal chat regarding the role.

It is now time for reading assembly so all that is left is for me to wish you a happy half-term and urge you to enjoy every moment with your precious families.

Thanks,

Joe Porter

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

The three little pigs are brave. Do you agree or disagree? Explain why.

Walker - What did they do to fix the broom?

Newton - What do you predict will happen in the story?

Thunberg - In Fly Eagle Fly, what do you think the message of the story is?

Darwin - What colour would a zebra be if it lost all its stripes?

Attenborough - How is Kiran Millwood Hargrave's A Secret of Birds and Bone similar to her Girl of Ink and Stars? How is it different?

Some fabulous writing from our Year 1 children! The Big Bad Wolf has visited Darell and eaten all the sausages from the school kitchen. He is STILL hungry and now wants to eat the teachers! Never fear: Year 1 have created some wanted posters to help catch this naughty villain. https://t.co/pKLPJaiAPS
