Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you are all well and had a lovely half-term break.  This half-term is always a blur but it feels as though we have been back for ages.  I am really pleased to announce that today your child will be given the first edition of our Darell Dynamo newspaper.  Please seek it out from the bottom of their bag as it is a fantastic read.  I am really proud of all the children involved in the production.  We really wanted it to be reflective of their own work and every word was penned by them.  I accompanied Max, our school photographer, to Pensford Field to take the flower pictures on the first page.  I have to say a big thank you to Alan Hamilton who has driven this project and to Debbi Marco who has  come on board to support with content.  I would appeal to any parent who may be a graphic designer to make themselves known as we are always looking to refine our presentation.  We have not yet decided how often it will be published but will let you know as soon as we do.  We are printing a number of copies of this edition as we will be distributing them to local businesses.  We want all to see the talent that is within Darell School.

There are a number of dates for this half-term that I need to share with you.  I am going to delay this until Monday as we are expecting the government to announce whether all restrictions will be lifted.  This really affects any events we are looking to hold this half-term, so we will release our plans on Monday or early Tuesday depending on government timings.  What I can share with you is your child’s class teacher for next year.  In theory, the last Friday before half-term is a nervous one for Headteachers because it is the last point at which a teacher can resign.  I can report that none of them did!  You will see that bar one switch there is very little movement.

One very small point.  Can we ensure that children do not bring fidget toys into school. If you believe that your child has a need for support of this kind please let the school know and we can discuss.  Finally, I would like to say thank you to those who contributed to the survey sent out before half-term. Your constructive feedback is always welcomed.  It is always possible to get better at what we do. The weather is set fair for the weekend with hats and sunscreen really needed for Sunday.  Please have a lovely weekend and enjoy time with friends and families.

Joe Porter

Office Updates

Warm Weather

As the weather has been fine and looks likely to stay, we request all children attend school with a water bottle, sun hat and apply sun cream in the morning.

The Office is Closed

Although restrictions are slowly lifting, the office still remains closed to parents and carers.  You may  only enter the office if you have a pre booked appointment. We must insist you wear a mask at all times whilst  in the office area. Thank you

No Parking

Please can we ask all parents and carers, to not stop or park on the yellow zig zag lines surrounding the school. These areas must be kept clear at all times for the safety of our children and access for the emergency services.

Wellbeing

The Anna Freud Centre have prepared excellent resources for self-care over the summer holidays to help children, young people and their parents/carers.

Since the lock down started back in March 2020, the impact on mental health and wellbeing for all has been significant and these resources may help to support children to come back to education in September with a sense of wellbeing. This resource is easily accessible and there is a crises contact line families can use.
