Headteacher Message

Hello all,

Every Friday we have our weekly celebration assembly where children come up onto the stage to receive certificates for their excellence. This week it was my turn (on behalf of the school).

Myself and Mrs Claridge were invited to the lovely Lensbury club to receive the gold award for being an attachment aware school.  I could go into great detail about this, but I will sum it up. 

We are really good at dealing with children's behaviour at this school. We do not label, but we do nurture, and we treat every child as an individual. 84% of the schools in the borough have committed to being attachment aware, and we have moved through the programme collecting bronze and silver on the way.   There are only a few who have reached gold status.  For this I have to credit each one of the staff team at Darell. I was there to pick up the award, but it was for them.  

Thank you all for your support on sports day.  There was a lovely atmosphere and, most importantly of all, your children had a lovely time.  One small point: we won the tug of war. Thank you to Georgia Harris for organising what will be her last sports day at Darell school.  All that remains is for me to wish you a happy weekend.  Enjoy time with your families.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - In We're Going on a Lion Hunt, can you name the different places the girls have to travel through (long grass, swamp, lake, big dark cave), can you describe the lion (shiny wet nose,  big shaggy mane, big furry paws).  What would you like to hunt for? Why?  

Peake - Which Beast story did you prefer: The Lonely Beast, The Brave Beast or The Baby Beast? Explain why. 

Weir - How would you feel if, like Atir, you had to move to a different country, look after a giraffe and might not see your parents again?

Thunberg - Where do you think the Iron Man came from? Do you think he will return there or stay in the scrapyard forever? Why?

Darwin - Was the Wizard of Oz a good person?

Attenborough - Do you know your lines of the Highwayman poem already? Which one is your favourite?

Parks - Why do you think Mrs Dando was worried about Michael? (‘Skellig’ by David Almond)

Attendance

Overall, school attendance this week was 93%. Our target is 97%.

Well done to Attenborough Class for the highest attendance of 97% this week.
