Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you are all well. First, I would like to say thank you for showing such understanding of the rearranging of Sports Day. It was seriously hot on Tuesday and Wednesday, and I think it was the best decision for the well-being of all our children. Currently, the weather looks ideal for Wednesday, so we should have no problems next week.

We hope to see you there and one bonus of the delay is that the staff team have been able to taper off their weights routines in preparation for the parents/staff tug of war.

It has been very quiet in school today as Newton, Walker, and Year 1 and 2 have been at the seaside all day. By all accounts, they are experiencing quintessentially British weather. As you know, the organisation of these events does not take place in a vacuum, and I would like to say thank you to the extended staff team for their efforts in putting this trip together.

This week, I have begun the process of reading through every child’s end of year report.  This is actually a highlight of my job.  What shines through is that every teacher knows your children.  I don’t mean just as learners, but as young people as well. It is lovely to read about the progress that your children have made this year, and it always makes me excited about the possibilities for next year.  I hope you all have a lovely weekend with your precious families.

Joe Porter

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - What do the different people in Anna Hibiscus' family do when they are feeling happy? (grandfather counts all the reasons why on his hand, grandmother squeezes grandfather's hand, the aunties' happiness gives them strength to work, cousins walk on their hands and do cartwheels and somersaults/uncle Tunde dances, papa tells mama how much he loves her, mama sits still and quietly, Anna sings)

Peake - What does it mean to be lonely? Can you think of a time when you have felt lonely? What could you do if you see someone who seems lonely?

Weir - Do you think Ziraffa loved Atir back? How would she show him this?

Thunberg - What did you most enjoy about the Iron Man? Would you recommend this book? Why? Why not?

Darwin - How would you describe Chulak in 'The Firework-Maker's Daughter'

Attenborough - How does the book Can You See Me? by Libby Scott and Rebecca Westcott help you understand autism better?

Parks - Do you think Michael is happy at the beginning of the story? Why/why not? (‘Skellig’ by David Almond)

Truly epic! Yesterday, was the first concert of the newly formed Darell School rock band. Here is a clip of our lead guitarist limbering up. We would like to thank Rock Bandz for unleashing the talent that is within. Rock on! https://t.co/RYG3Soaa1j
