Headteacher Message

After the torrent of rain yesterday, I am very pleased to be looking out at the bright blue sky and hope it remains for the weekend! 

The first week back has been packed full of events. Here is a taster of a few of them:

Reception started their forest school sessions this week and Mrs. Thomas took the opportunity to work with the rest of the class on a mapping project and we very much look forward seeing the outcome.

Year 1 have also been out this week to Barn Church to look at what makes this a special building for Christians, as part of their RE learning about sacred objects and places. They will build upon this learning by looking at similarities and differences with other places of worship, later in the term. I was very impressed with the children’s knowledge and enthusiasm!

Today the whole school is looking and feeling very relaxed and comfy in our onesies and pjs! We’ve come together to raise money for a new water tray in nursery - it was a great way of raising funds.

All of these events wouldn’t be possible without our committed staff but also without the generous support of volunteers and parents. We have a growing group of parents who are giving up their time to support the school community, either by attending trips, supporting children with their learning in school or fundraising. Today alone we have raised £180!

A wholehearted thank you to everyone who has given their time. Please get in contact if you would like to help in any capacity. 

We are off to finish the week with our celebration assembly, where we get together to celebrate each other's successes and share the random acts of kindness that are happening in every corner of the school throughout the week. I will leave you with this example of a Kindness Message from one of our year 6 pupils: 

‘I would like to thank the lunch people for giving me lunch even though I was late for lunch; you cheered me up!’

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - How many of Tom's adventures can you remember from our story, 'The Great Explorer'? He sees icebergs, the Northern Lights, his ship runs aground, he goes in a hot air balloon,   a satellite pops his balloon, he has to parachute down a dangerous cliff, he meets a walrus, his tent blows away in a blizzard, he meets a polar bear, he builds an igloo, he rescues his dad, they go in a helicopter. 

Peake - Rapunzel lived all alone in a tall, dark tower. She was trapped there by a witch, who visited every day. 

What do you know is happening from these sentences? Where is it happening? What do you think the characters are like? How do you know? 

Weir - What did Samuel Pepys do and why was this important?

Thunberg - What does the space on the page mean to you? 

Darwin - What one item of modern equipment might have helped Shackleton and his crew the most after the Endurance sank?

Attenborough - What do you think is inside the Anubis jar?
