Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you are well.  Eyes down, look in, or something like that.  I received an email this morning informing me about the school bingo event that is happening on the 30th October. I am really looking forward to it, particularly because I have nominated myself as the caller.

‘Darell Tree, 23’ I know that places are limited (we are doing it in the hall), so please buy your tickets as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will continue to have a soft end to the day in the Key Stage playground on a Friday and will not be locking the gates till 4pm.  If we are going to serve refreshments, we will let you know in advance.

You will all have been sent your curriculum overview for this term.  This outlines the scope of work your child will undertake this term.  They look a little bit like this:

Please have a read through.

I have just finished my first school council meeting.  I have to say it is slightly more intimidating than my Headteacher's performance management.  Your children absolutely know what is going well at the school and are very vocal about what would make the school better.  I would not have it any other way.  I want every child to feel that they have a voice that will be heard in this school.  It is their school and they are amazing.

I’m heading to the hills now. Well, Hampton Hill, so all that is left is to wish you a lovely autumnal sunny weekend.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - What can the peas do that Colin can't do? (roll, bounce, play hide and seek)

What can Colin do that the peas can't do? (make an excellent tower, a fantastic bridge and a great slide)

Does it matter that they are different? (No, they can still be the best of friends)

Peake - In the poem 'Tap the Tree' how do you think the tree feels to have someone tapping on it? Why do you think the girl stops tapping and starts clapping instead?

Weir - If you had to hide in plain site, like the lion being a lion statue, where would you hide?

Thunberg - Thinking about your own life, is there something you could change which would reduce your own contribution to our rising emissions?

Darwin - Is it better to make lots of mistakes and learn from them or make no mistakes at all?

Attenborough - Which poem from the collection Being Me did you enjoy the most? Why?

Parks - ‘Street Child’ – How were the children punished in the workhouse? Do you agree or disagree with this type of discipline? Why?
