Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you are all well. I have to say that my attempts at skipping today have forced a fitness re-think.  At 2.30pm the whole school stopped and we skipped.  In the corridors, in the hall, in the playgrounds.  It was lovely to be doing it all together and there was no lack of effort across the school.

This will be a short newsletter, but that is because I am going to be asking for some of your time.

Below is the link to a very short questionnaire. I would be very grateful if you could spend some of your precious time filling it in.  Why?  Well that is a good question.  We have done a lot of work on ensuring that children have a voice within this school.  When I reflect on this, it is one of the things that I am most proud of at Darell; each one of your children feel that they will be listened to and taken seriously during the school day.  Well, now it is our turn to listen to you. Please look out for the email with the link.

We look forward to reviewing your feedback and making the school even better. Thank you and have a lovely weekend

Joe Porter

Office Updates

School meal price increase from April

Due to the increase in costing for supply and demand in the catering industry, our catering company Caterlink and the local authority have made an increase to the current school meal price. The current price is £2.35 per meal per day and will increase to £2.60 per meal per day. This change will come into force on Monday, 17th April 2023.

Please can we remind all parents as a school we are unable to administer medication unless prescribed by a GP and also when it is required more than 3 times a day.

If your child requires medication throughout the day, and it has not been prescribed you will need to attend school and administer the medication to your child. For more information please follow the link to our Supporting children with medical needs in school policy.

The Reading Corner

Welcome to our weekly section of the newsletter all about reading. Every week, we will share a question (or two) with you about the book your child is reading in school. Please use these questions to help you find out a little more about what your child has been reading in school and continue to develop their love of reading.

Wonder - from our reading of the Bible story, The Lost Sheep, can you remember where the shepherd searches for the sheep and what he does when he finds him? Why is it so important for the shepherd to rescue one sheep? (parents, we have been focusing on our school value of 'equality' here, that all the sheep are of equal importance to the shepherd) Have you ever been lost? Who found you?

Peake - In our book, 'Windows', what does the phrase 'almost-night' tell you about the time of day? Can you remember some of the things the boy saw on his walk around the neighbourhood?

Weir - What do you predict is going to happen in the deep, dense forest? What makes you think this?

Thunberg - Do you think Perseus will really kill King Acrisius, as the fortune-teller said?

Darwin - How does sound travel through the air?

Attenborough - What do you think is inside the Anubis jar? Do you think the papyrus scroll will tell us? ?

Parks - How can Narnia defeat the White Witch?
