Headteacher Message
Happy new year to all.
I hope you all had a lovely festive break and are feeling optimistic about 2023. I thought it would be a good time to update and remind you about a few things. I may even use a bold typeface and the underlining tool to assist with this!
Your children
They are lovely, and we have been so pleased to see them back in school. It has been an exceptionally calm start to the year and learning focus has been spot on. I have already completed five tours of the school with prospective parents this week and each and every one of them has remarked upon how well behaved our children are. That is a credit to you and the staff. I have worked in and sent my children to schools where some of the staff are not motivated and don't really want to be there. This is simply not the case at Darell. A more passionate and committed team would be hard to find.
Communication
Just a reminder that we really want to promote an open door policy. If you have anything you would like to discuss with us please contact the school. Even if we are busy we will arrange a time ASAP to meet with you. As a (usually) non teaching member of staff I am nearly always available on the phone. Please give the school a ring and ask to speak to Mr Porter. It may be a small thought that you are having, but do not let it fester. Give me a call. We want to work in partnership with you and your family
Volunteers
Mrs Claridge has just finished safeguarding training for four parent volunteers. That is great but we would like even more. What is good is that we will try to play to your strengths in terms of what we would be asking you to do. Please let the office know if you have any time to spare. We will be holding further safeguarding training for parents on Monday, 30th 2.30pm.
Learning
We are currently holding our whole school pupil progress meetings whereby we look at the progress that every child is making and ensure that we have the best provision in place for them to reach their full potential. It has been lovely hearing about the progress that is being made. Please continue to do your bit at home. Listen to your child read if you can or sign their reading log if you know they have read. I know from personal experience how busy life is and if you are unable to physically listen to your child read please make sure that they are reading daily and sign their reading log.
Celebration
It was lovely to share one of our pupil’s successes today, in assembly. We had pictures of him playing rugby for his team and a very shiny medal. We hope that this is the first of many. Please send in any pictures and let us know about further successes outside of school.
That is enough reminding so now onto the weekend. Have a happy and safe time with your families.
Joe Porter
