Headteacher Message

Hello all,

I hope you are all well.  It is actually hard to believe that we only have four weeks of the term left.  Where has it gone?  Actually, I can give you some insight on this and I will do it by looking at the progress our children make across the academic year.  Below is the writing from a child in Year 1.  This was their writing in September.

This is the writing that was presented to me today.

What progress!  This does not happen by magic. Although it was magical when they came to see me in the office today.  This is testament to the brilliant work done by all the staff team in Year 1 and across the school.  Please enjoy your weekend! See you on Monday for four more delicious weeks of school.

Joe Porter

Being Outside = Improved Mental Health

With longer, warmer and sunnier days it is a great time to step outside and enjoy the many benefits of fresh air and nature. Here are 7 reasons why being outside is good for your mental health and wellbeing:
? Reduces stress levels: going for a walk is one of the best ways of reducing stress levels.
? Feel better about yourself: getting outdoors and exercising improves self-esteem and body image.
? Improve your concentration and focus: looking at nature improves our ability to restore concentration.
? Improve mood: did you know that regular exercise can be as effective as antidepressants.
? Sleep better: going for a walk in the early evening can help you relax and improve the quality of your sleep.
? Worry less: the effect of exercise of worry and feeling anxious is rapid and effective.
? The sunshine vitamin: being outside increases your levels of Vitamin D. Low levels of Vitamin D have been associated with low mood and worry.

What are content farms and are they harmful?

We work collaboratively across industry, government and with schools to reach UK families with tools, tips and resources to help children benefit from connected technology smartly and safely.

Quick ‘hacks’ on various video-sharing and social media platforms have become popular. And content farms have found a way to engage lots of people in short periods of time. But many of the videos they create have content that could seriously harm young viewers.

What is a content farm?

The phrase ‘content farm’ describes a large company that quickly generates content in large amounts. It is often viewed as low-quality content. On YouTube, a lot of this is in the form of crafts or ‘hacks’. Some are harmful or dangerous.

In many cases, one larger company owns multiple channels on YouTube that put out this content. For example, one of the biggest media publishing companies in the world, TheSoul Publishing, owns the popular channels, 5-Minute Crafts and Bright Side. This company also posts on other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

Content farms exist to make money. The videos are monetised to earn money from ads. As such, if they get a lot of clicks, then they get a lot of revenue as well.

Green frittata muffins recipe

he whole family will love these healthy green frittata muffins packed with courgette, spinach, peas and Cheddar cheese. They can be frozen too, so whip up a batch and enjoy as a quick lunch option, for the kid's packed lunches or a tasty afternoon snack.

Green frittata muffins recipeIngredients

  • 2 tsp olive oil, plus extra for greasing
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • ½ large courgette, grated
  • handful baby spinach, roughly chopped
  • 30g frozen peas
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 40g Cheddar cheese, grated
  • Method

  • Preheat the oven to gas 4, 180°C, fan 160°C. Grease 6 holes of a muffin tin and put a disc of baking paper in the bottom of each.
  • Heat the olive oil in a small frying pan over a medium heat. Add the garlic, courgette and spinach. Cook for 4-5 mins, stirring frequently to prevent the vegetables catching on the bottom of the pan. Remove from the heat and stir through the frozen peas.
  • In a large bowl, gently stir the cooked vegetables and cheese into the beaten egg. Divide the mixture evenly between the prepared muffin holes.
  • Bake for 18-20 mins, until the frittatas are set and golden. Remove from the oven and leave to cool slightly, before releasing from the tin. Store in a plastic container.
