Headteacher Message

Hello all,

As you well know, we are an extremely welcoming school.  This apparently extends to all! This morning I was greeted by this lovely creature.

Fortunately, Blue and Dutch were not in attendance and our feline friend had the run of the school. Tenuous link incoming.  I really want our school to be a warm welcoming place and I think we are getting there.  We have recently welcomed a number of new children. The feedback I have received from their families has been great.  I believe this all stems from the greeting these families get from the front of house team.  I always think it is important to fundamentally like people unless they give you good reason not to. This attitude is reflected by the office team and I believe all other staff.  I would never name any names but in my long and illustrious career this has not always been the case when I have entered a school for the first time.

So it seems the theme of this week's newsletter is ‘welcoming’ and that is what we shall do.  Due to the success of our recent Jubilee picnic we are once again opening our doors to the school community and holding a summer celebration barbecue.  What are we celebrating?  Ourselves and each other.  It will also give us all an opportunity to say goodbye to the treasured staff members who are leaving. We may even fire up the PA system for a few speeches. There will not be a dry eye in the house and gardens. We will also be saying goodbye to a group of amazing Year 6 parents and this will be a lovely opportunity to do so.  There.  I have now convinced myself it is a good idea so let’s do it.  Wednesday 15th July, barbecue in the Key Stage 2 playground.  I used to love these events as a parent as it meant dinner was sorted for the evening and home life became that bit easier.  So please attend.  We will send out more info next week.

Have a lovely weekend.  Celebrate or remember the fathers of the world and stay safe.

Joe Porter

Student Wellbeing Update Issue 1 – Stanborough Primary SchoolWellbeing

Being Outside = Improved Mental Health

With longer, warmer and sunnier days it is a great time to step outside and enjoy the many benefits of fresh air and nature. Here are 7 reasons why being outside is good for your mental health and wellbeing:

  • Reduces stress levels: going for a walk is one of the best ways of reducing stress levels.
  •  Feel better about yourself: getting outdoors and exercising improves self-esteem and body image.
  • Improve your concentration and focus: looking at nature improves our ability to restore concentration.
  • Improve mood: did you know that regular exercise can be as effective as antidepressants.
  • Sleep better: going for a walk in the early evening can help you relax and improve the quality of your sleep.
  • Worry less: the effect of exercise of worry and feeling anxious is rapid and effective.
  • The sunshine vitamin: being outside increases your levels of Vitamin D. Low levels of Vitamin D have been associated with low mood and worry.

Great reasons to jump off the sofa and get going!!
